Hilary Duff Album

Hilary Duff is the self-titled second album by American singer Hilary Duff, released in the United States on September 28, 2004 (see 2004 in music), the singer's seventeenth birthday. It was certified platinum by the RIAA a little more than a month after its release, on October 29, 2004. The album has been a disappointment compared to her debut Metamorphosis. Many had expected this album to do better than her Triple Platinum debut and enter the Billboard charts at #1. Instead the album debuted & peaked at #2, taking three months to sell just a million copies according to Soundscan.

The first single released from the album was "Fly", which was featured on the soundtrack for the film Raise Your Voice (in which Duff starred), and was released internationally on January 11, 2005 (see 2005 in music) by Mushroom Records. The single's music video was directed by Chris Applebaum. "Someone's Watching Over Me" was the album's second single, and was released on February 22, 2005 in Australia. The CD single also featured the song "My Generation", which was included on the album's release in Japan. Like "Fly", "Someone's Watching Over Me" was also included on the Raise Your Voice soundtrack, with Duff's character performing the song during the climax of the film. The single's video was compiled entirely of footage from this scene in the film. "Jericho" was also featured in Raise Your Voice in which Duff's character performs the song, along with the rest cast, while the film's credits roll.

"The Getaway" was released as a promotional single for the album in North America. It was originally slated for a full single release in October 2004, but was postponed to November, then January 2005, then March. It was then cancelled and Duff was instructed by her record label, Hollywood Records, to start recording a new album, Most Wanted. Her label said that Hilary Duff didn't sell as well as her first album, Metamorphosis, and that she should release a new album instead of promoting this one. The album has sold 1.6 million copies to date.
